Human-level recognition of blast cells in acute myeloid leukaemia with convolutional neural networks

An stained leukocyte from a patient's blood smear as seen by a trained cytologist (left) and our neural network algorithm (right).

We show that an AI-driven algorithm is able to identify leukemic blast cells in patients' blood smears at least as good as a trained cytologist. For more information read the press release of the Helmholtz Zentrum München or click here for the original publication.
