Topic: DNA is packaged into the nucleus as chromatin fibres, whose main constituents are histone proteins. Recent technological advances have opened new opportunities to study the epigenomic information encoded by chemical modifications of histones and its implications for genome function. This ‘histone code’ has proven instrumental for the understanding the non-coding parts of the genome and mechanisms of common diseases. In this seminar, we will study the mathematical models and computational approaches used to analyse epigenomic landscapes and to understand the underlying biochemical mechanisms. We will implement these methods, study the technologies and discuss the biological implications. Apart from familiarizing with computational biology, we want to strengthen presentation and discussion skills of the participants.
