Adipocytes and Metabolism Unit

“Progress lies not in enhancing what is, but in advancing toward what will be.”  (Khalil Gibran)

The overarching aim of our research is to elucidate mechanism enabling healthy adipose tissue expansion upon weight gain to prevent the development of insulin resistance and the metabolic syndrome.

  • To understand adipose tissue heterogeneity in the development of insulin resistance
  • To establish mechanisms maintaining functional, insulin sensitive adipose tissue
  • To identify environmental (gut microbiota) and endocrine modulators and effectors of adipose tissue function
  • To develop adipose selective imaging and drug delivery vehicles
