Longitudinal analysis of pancreatic endocrine heterogeneity in mouse

The development of the endocrine compartment of the pancreas has not been completely dissected yet. Understanding the mechanisms underlying the final step of maturation of the islets of Langerhans could generate novel therapeutic approaches for diabetes and improve the current protocol for the differentiation of β-cells from stem cells. Using our Fltp reporter mouse line and the innovative technology of single cell RNA sequencing (scRNAseq) we aim to pinpoint the key signaling pathways that determine the acquisition of the mature phenotype of the islets of Langerhans. Furthermore, we want to unveil the mechanisms underlying the establishment and maintenance of the heterogeneity of the islets of Langerhans throughout the life.
