Project description

Type 2 diabetes is characterized by reduced sensitivity of the insulin receptor and by ß-cell dysfunction. We have identified a novel receptor, which modulates insulin receptor signaling and could be targeted in Type 2 diabetes. My project focuses on the investigation of this novel receptor during the differentiation of human induced pluripotent stem cells towards ß-cells. This human in vitro system allows for human translation. Furthermore, ß-cell development can be investigated since the differentiation protocol recapitulates the steps of embryonic development.
