Diabetes mellitus shows a rapidly growing incidence worldwide and increases the risk for certain cancer types such as breast cancer. The insulin/insulin-like growth factor (IGF) signaling cascade is frequently affected in both diseases. Therefore, dysregulated proteins that regulate the pathway are an interesting target for new therapeutical approaches. At the IDR-L, a novel receptor has been identified that influences the insulin/IGF signaling. My project focuses on the exact regulation mechanisms in β-cells and on a functional analysis of the receptor in breast cancer.
