Project Description

Dissecting the molecular mechanisms underlying endocrine cell formation and function


The pancreatic endocrine compartment regulates glucose homeostasis by secreting hormones into the blood stream. Despite the efforts, the formation of endocrine cells during pancreas development has been not yet fully understood. I combine mouse genetics with cutting edge technologies such as primary pancreatic culture, single cell RNA sequencing and confocal imaging to provide novel insight into the gene regulatory programs and factors regulating endocrine cell induction, specification and maturation. Disclosing and describing new determinants or factors involved in pancreatic endocrinogenesis will enrich the understanding of this complex process to then be translated to regenerative therapies.
