German Mouse Clinic (GMC)

The scientific focus of the GMC is on understanding the pathophysiology of diseases as result of interactions of genetic and environmental factors, thereby reflecting per se the translation of the central mission of the Helmholtz Zentrum München: understanding the connection between health and the environment.

Contribution to the IEG thematic focus Large-scale Functional Genomics

The GMC is one of the Large Scale Functional Genomics Unit of the IEG and serves both Top down projects like phenotyping of mouselines in EUMODIC / IMPC and Bottom up projects in collaboration with single laboratories.

Contribution to the IEG thematic focus Metabolism and Diseases

Although the GMC does not discriminate against a specific disease we put specific emphasis on the analysis of lines presenting potential models for diabetes, metabolic syndrome and neurodegenerative diseases, and on deepening collaborations with promising primary results in this specific disease area. The establishment of a unit for diabetic screening and the increase of state-of-the-art equipment and technology development in the unit for metabolic phenotyping underscore our aim to strengthen the disease focus.
