The Munich Center of Health Sciences (MC-Health) is a project funded by the programme “LMUinnovativ” of the Ludwig-Maximilians-University, Munich (LMU). The research center includes more than a dozen LMU professors from five faculties. It focuses on quantitative health sciences and integrates disciplines such as medicine, epidemiology, biometrics and bioinformatics, health economics and management, and communication sciences. The research efforts are directed at three major fields:

  1. Evidence-based prevention, especially in chronic diseases
  2. Precision medicine approaches
  3. Health care research.

Three professorships and a number of staff positions have been provided to promote the scientific work in MC-Health in addition to the existing resources. Most of the research projects are interdisciplinary, work often is organized in networks, including a strong international orientation. There is an important link to the educational programs in public health as well as in other health-related specialties of the participating disciplines. The Munich Center of Health Sciences benefits from the excellent position which LMU has achieved in medical research, from the clustering of life-science industries in Munich which are among the leading ones in European research, and from significant synergies that emerge from the resources provided by the Helmholtz Zentrum München – German Research Center for Environmental Health (GmbH).
