Isis E. Fernandez receives Young Talent Award for outstanding dissertation

The doctoral committee of the Munich Medical Research School (MMRS) at LMU University Munich has awarded the “Dr. Hildegard und Heinrich Fuchs Preis zur Förderung medizinischen Nachwuchses” to Isis E. Fernandez, Physician Scientist at the CPC/ILBD.

The prestigious prize for outstanding dissertations is awarded each year to two exceptional doctoral students who graduated with honors and outstanding achievements. The award was granted to Isis Fernandez for her work in basic research based on her grades, publication record and overall performance. The award comes with € 5.000,00 prize money.

The dissertation of Isis E. Fernandez: Biomarker discovery and drug testing in Idiopathic Pulmonary Fibrosis.

Thorough the execution and culmination of the studies compiled in this thesis, Isis E. Fernandez comprehensively analyzed and integrated several publications of her authorship that with forward and reverse translational approaches, sought to expand and improve preclinical testing in Idiopathic pulmonary fibrosis (IPF). IPF is a lethal disease with a median survival lower that many cancer types, and although an unprecedented increase in understanding the mechanisms driving lung fibrosis has occurred, integration of several layers of knowledge are still necessary to fully translate those findings into improved patient care.
