Chronic lung diseases are the research focus of the ILBD and CPC.

Targeting the role of originating factors and key pathways of disease development, all work is determined to contribute to strategies of disease prevention and the establishment of novel diagnostic and therapeutic approaches in the area of chronic lung disease. Scientists elucidate the underlying mechanism of chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD), lung fibrosis, lung cancer or asthma and complications following lung transplantation by the use of unique preclinical in vivo and in vitro models. Close collaboration with clinical partners and the availability of > 10.000 samples derived from human material - made available through the bioArchive - enables the continuous translation of these findings into patient-relevant strategies.

The ILBD/CPC is a member of the DZL (CPC-M).
