Scientific Focus

The Königshoff Lab aims to decipher the pathogenesis of chronic lung disease and explores novel routes to initiate lung repair and regeneration. In particular, the Lab investigates the role of developmental pathways, such as Wnt signaling in chronic lung disease. We aim to understand how developmental signal mediators are involved in lung injury, disturbed epithelial-mesenchymal crosstalk, and extracellular matrix deposition in idiopathic pulmonary fibrosis (IPF) and chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD).

With this, we intend to identify novel targets amenable for future therapeutic strategies and translate our findings into clinical use. Further, we explore the endogenous regenerative potential of the adult human lung, which would open completely novel avenues for the treatment of patients with chronic lung disease.
