Helmholtz Munich Welcomes New Administrative Managing Director

Michael Frieser will take over as the Administrative Managing Director of Helmholtz Munich from March 1st, 2024. With him, the research center has gained an experienced professional in science administration and public management.

Dr. Michael Frieser brings a wealth of experience to his new role. He obtained his diploma in Public Administration from the Federal University of Applied Administrative Sciences in Cologne in 1988, followed by studies in Biology at the Friedrich-Alexander-University Erlangen-Nürnberg. During his academic journey, his focus on rheumatology and connective tissue research led him to contribute significantly to clinical research groups within the Max Planck Society. In 1994, Dr. Frieser completed his PhD at the Institute of Experimental Medicine at the University of Erlangen. Subsequently, he assumed leadership roles, notably as the head of the IT department at the Paul-Ehrlich Institute in Langen, where he eventually oversaw the entire administration starting in 2003. His expertise and leadership were further honed during his tenure as the Administrative Director of the Berlin Institute of Health at Charité (BIH) from September 2021 to February 2024.

Expressing enthusiasm for his new position, Michael Frieser emphasizes his commitment to driving the digitization of Helmholtz Munich:

“I am really looking forward to my new role at Helmholtz Munich. My goal is to rapidly advance the digitization of the center, especially regarding administrative processes. As a native of the “Oberpfalz” myself, I look forward with great pleasure to meeting my new colleagues in Munich".
