Prediabetes - what's behind it and does a lifestyle change help?

IDM,

In the latest episode of DocFischer, researchers at the DZD explain what lies behind prediabetes and whether lifestyle changes can help.

Estimates by the Robert Koch Institute show that one in five people between the ages of 18 and 79 could be affected by prediabetes - many of them without realizing it. Those affected do not feel anything for a long time and there are no symptoms. Prediabetes is therefore often only discovered during a routine blood test. But the consequences can be serious.

In the latest episode of DocFischer, Prof. Dr. Andreas Birkenfeld, Medical Director of the Department of Diabetology, Endocrinology and Nephrology at Tübingen University Hospital, and Prof. Dr. Rainer Jumpertz-von Schwarzenberg, Head of the Clinical Study Centre of Medical Clinic IV at Tübingen University Hospital, explain the causes and risks of prediabetes and how blood glucose levels can be normalized through a lifestyle intervention.
