About our research

Our research is focused on the characterization of host-pathogen interactions and the role of cell signaling and cell death during intracellular infections to identify novel host and virulence factors that manipulate the host to facilitate infection. Analysis and understanding of involved signaling pathways and factors allow us to identify novel potent therapeutic targets and strategies to fight infections. We aim to identify and design small molecule compounds that inhibit or eliminate these factors to support the control of infection, including chronic hepatitis B, SARS-CoV-2 and bunyavirus infection. Our work intersects with the fields of molecular virology, cell signaling, immunology and biochemistry and includes in vitro based cell culture assays and tools as well as in vivo infection models in BSL2 and BSL3 laboratories.
